The Sisterhood

The Sacred Monastery of Saint Sidónia is a monastic community of Orthodox Christian Nuns under the spiritual leadership of our Founder and Elder, Archimandrite Dionysios, Abbot of the Sacred Monastery of John Capodistrias in Beinwil, Switzerland. We belong to the Patriarchate of Georgia. Our monastery is located in Union Bridge, Maryland, near Washington, DC, and Baltimore.

Our Sisterhood has its roots in Greece at the Sacred Monastery of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross in Thebes, founded by our Elder in 1994. By the Grace of God and the Blessing of our Elder, our spiritual family has grown to include more Monasteries in Greece, Switzerland, Germany, Norway, France, and Africa, with nuns and monks of diverse backgrounds hailing from different countries, including the United States.

Around the Monastery

The Sisterhood prays the full cycle of daily services and celebrates the Feasts of the Liturgical year. Our prayers and liturgies are combined with hospitality to visitors, caring for the gardens, chickens, and bees, making prayer ropes, natural skin balms and oils, mounting icons in the wood working shop, sewing monastic and ecclesiastical garb, baking Prosphora for the Liturgy, and roasting coffee, to name a few of our obediences.
THE SISTERHOOD OF ST. SIDÓNIA’S MAIN PURPOSE IS PRAYING THE DAILY CYCLE OF SERVICES.
